A First-Steps Checklist

The roadmap we wish we'd had — what to handle, and when.

When someone you love dies, you're asked to make dozens of decisions while grieving. This checklist helps you see what needs to happen, and roughly in what order. You don't have to do it all at once — start near the top and go at your own pace.

Take care of yourself

Grief isn't a task you complete. Some days you'll get a lot done; some days you won't, and that's allowed. Accept help when it's offered. This takes as long as it takes.

This checklist is general information, not legal, financial, or tax advice. Rules vary by state and situation — please confirm specifics with qualified professionals.
